The checkout girl is cute and young Majoring in chewing gum She doesn't think my little joke is funny I'm at the age they look through me Like a separate species One for the list of things I learned from life I have a thought, I jot it down Which at the time seems quite profound But later it's just fortune cookie jive You'd think I'd been around this long I would have more than a song For my list of things I learned from life Try to keep my head down Play it safe If I keep my head down You won't see my face Up there on a Vegas stage Singin' "I Did It My Way" But on second thought I guess maybe I did If I have my health, I have a home I am loved, I'm not alone One for the list of things I learned from life The checkout lady's middle-aged She smiles when I make my play I'm gonna wow 'em at the nursing home I have a thought, I jot it down Which at the time seems quite profound One for the list of things I learned from life One for the list of things I learned from life One for the list of things I learned
